  • Duran Duran and Bill Bellamy soak up the sun at Wet Republic!!

Posted on March 24th, 2010 admin No comments

English rock group Duran Duran stopped by WET REPUBLIC at the MGM Grand today to soak up some fun in the sun. The laid back Brits relaxed in one of WET REPUBLIC’s iconic bungalows with their manager. Here in town for a private concert, the easy to please band members took a dip in the salt water pool. Front man Simon Le Bon laid out in the sun as he caught up on some leisure reading while sitting poolside. In the bungalow next door, funny man and Last Comic Standing host Bill Bellamy was partying with a slew of friends. Bellamy was here in town for a live stand-up routine at the Southpoint earlier this weekend. The group decided to take refuge in the shade of the bungalow as they watched the Texas A & M/ Purdue NCAA basketball game. Friends of Bellamy also enjoyed dancing on the daybed to Journey’s “Don’t stop Believing” and Jay-Z’s “Young Forever”.

After a full day of lounging around, the group sampled items from the new WET REPUBLIC munchies menu such as the Kobe sliders, chicken fingers and chop chop salad. DJ Vice created the soundtrack for the sunny afternoon.

  • Wet Republic and Bare pool hit hard this past weekend

Posted on March 16th, 2010 admin No comments

It’s officially here. Season 2010 of the Las Vegas pool scene. We had the pleasure of attending 2 of the opening of pools this weekend. First one was Wet Republic.

An insider at Wet Republic informed us that they started of right with not only large crowds all weekend, but a client came in and spent nearly 50k at their cabana. That’s a huge bill and a very big, “HELLO we are open now” gesture to the rest of the world. Wet Republic has many great events planned this year and from what we hear, they would like to double the impact they made last year. We can only say this at LasVegasPoolScene.com, “wait till you see what they have in store. It’s going to be an unbelievable year for this pool. We can feel it.”

Bare pool launched their 2010 season with a big punch as well. As you can see in the picture below, they had the place packed and with their line-up this year, Bare pool will be another LVPS favorite go-to pool.

As we face this horrific economy crisis in our world today, the Las Vegas pool scene doesn’t seem to be affected by it so far and with all that we anticipate for special events, new pools opening, the daylife scene in Vegas is here as strong as the nightlife and ready to make a statement. Bring on the pool parties!

    Call 1-800-425-5139 for cabana/daybed reservations.

  • Making the biggest splash

Spring has yet to arrive but you better have your beach body ready soon: Vegas’ pool/dayclub season kicks off Friday.

If you’re into that scene, you can expect a lot more competition for your time this year. Established pools such as the Palms plan to be more aggressive in snagging a bigger share of the pool party pie, while new pools are expected to open by May.

The Palms pool opens Friday , a couple of weeks earlier than usual, notes Melanie Salas, project manager for Nine Group.

Consider it a warm-up to the property’s popular Ditch Fridays pool party, which officially starts its fourth season May 7. If you go to the Palms pool before that, you still will be treated to entertainment on the weekends and locals won’t have to pay a cover charge, Salas says.

Expect this year’s pool season to be bigger and better, she adds. Palms is extending Ditch Fridays hours to 7 p.m.; adding Skinny Dip Tuesdays when guests can swim at night; and extending hours on Fridays and Saturdays, when guests can enjoy poolside music and entertainment — but no swimming — from 8:30 p.m. to 2 a.m., Salas says.

“We’re going to be more aggressive this year than ever,” Salas says.

Last year, the Palms focused on big-name DJs, short performances and events where guests could get involved. Things will be similar in 2010, Salas says.

Though pool parties have been springing up in local resorts for the past five years, it doesn’t seem to be reaching a pinnacle. Some people now plan their vacations around a pool party/dayclub season, says Steve Zanella, vice president of marketing for MGM Grand.

MGM Grand’s Wet Republic is scheduled to open March 12.

Opened two years ago, Wet Republic continues to build on the previous years’ successes, Zanella says, in an effort to perfect the offerings and best meet customers’ needs.

“The pool scene has really become the dominant factor in the summer now,” Zanella says.

Liquid topless pool will open at Aria sometime this summer. Perhaps the most anticipated pool opening is Encore Beach Club at the Encore.

The 60,000-square-foot venue, on the Las Vegas Boulevard side of Encore, will feature three pools, a nightclub, double-decker air-conditioned cabanas, a gaming pavilion and other amenities. Switch restaurant also will be integrated into the area.

The project will cost more than $70 million once construction is completed. It is on track to open Memorial Day weekend, says Sean Christie, managing partner for Las Vegas Nightlife Group.

The climate control features mean that the pool can stay open about 10 months of the year.

“Our intent is to develop the best pool and nightclub in the city” Christie says. “I believe we are doing that.”

  • Cherry Pool to return as Red Rock Cabana Club

Posted on March 9th, 2010 admin No comments

Formerly the Cherry Pool, the Red Rock Cabana Club will resume operations next to the existing Red Rock Resort Pool early this May, with pool parties open to the public Saturdays and Sundays.

The neighboring Cherry Nightclub shut its doors January 3 after four years of operation by nightlife impresario Rande Gerber’s Midnight Oil company, then later by Station Casinos itself. A new concept is expected to take Cherry’s place, though no timeline has been set.

Live DJs once again will grace the Cabana Club decks, bangin’ out the tunes for the pool deck’s cabanas and daybeds beneath the swaying palms; reservations are welcomed at 702-797-7180. The popular Red Rock Retreat industry sleepover series, however, will not be returning with the 2010 pool season.

Red Rock Casino also will welcome Vegas’ second Yard House installation Sunday, June 6 in the former Salt Lick Barbeque location.

  • Everyone into the pool!

Posted on March 8th, 2010 admin No comments

Maybe you’ve noticed the recent flurry of full-page ads for jobs that started popping up in the Las Vegas Weekly over the past few weeks. This is unusual: Most employers, even in Las Vegas, don’t take out full-page glossy ads to fill vacancies. But this is a particular, peculiar niche of employment opportunity: The big casinos are hiring for their pools and ”daylife” parties, cocktail servers, bartenders, porters, bussers, bar backs, security officers, runners, VIP hosts and amenities girls. Oh, and lifeguards, too.

Beach party fans will have more choice this year, with established pools such as the Palms likely to be more aggressive in courting customers this year and newer pools scheduled to open in the next two months, the article says.

The Palms Casino Resort opened its pool today, two weeks earlier than usual but still with entertainment on weekends, the article says. The hotel’s popular Ditch Fridays pool party, however, officially gets launched on May 7 (front-of-line tickets cost $25; the pool area holds 2,500 people, according to the website).
